Singer, songwriter and author Ellen J. Barrier has risen from the local church and school to the silver screen and big stage on the wings of a diverse collection of music and literature.

Driven by a soulful, sweet voice and lyrics appealing to both adults and children, her creations blend themes of faith, spirituality, love and positivity. With another album released in 2014, this is yet another step forward for one of Wichita’s truly remarkable and burgeoning talents.

As owner of Barrier’s Books & Associates, she established herself as versatile entrepreneur and marketer, purveying a great selection of Inspirational music and literature. With 7 published albums already in her repertoire, Barrier continued to write throughout the 1990's and up to 2014, eventually spearheading a novel that would lead to her first big break.

Known as a ‘slice of life’ story, The Price We Must Pay for Our Father’s Sins was first published in 1997, resulting in a near immediate sell out. The book was revitalized in May 2012 as a digital publication, generating hits and downloads from around the country on a daily basis. Before she knew it, film production began in late 2012 and her novel was selected for Best Screenplay at the Beverly Hills Film Festival in 2013.

Now on a path to take her store, writing and music to the next level, Barrier continued to pen her inspirational and romantic songs for release in 2014. New poems and tracks are beginning to pop up on her blog and official website, giving listeners a taste of what’s in store for the upcoming year.

Ellen J. Barrier's Music

Music is the only language that every human being can understand. It allows us to be able to communicate with each other without an interpreter.

People can enjoy dancing, listening to the same music and dining on food together, and having fun, without saying a word to each other.

Music allows us to celebrate with each other regardless, of our native tongue.

This is an S.O.S to God (prayer)

Dear God,
This is an S.O.S call to you. This is another day I've awaken to find a heavier burden to bear.
I realize this burden is too heavy for me to bear, so I come to you in so much pain and shame.

Lord please answer this prayer.

My enemies oppress me daily, they criticize me Lord, and scandalize my name. Now, they seek to destroy me.

Lord, I have nowhere to run, and no place to hide.
I know that jealousy, hate, and wrong doings have made me a prisoner and a slave to sin.
They brought me here to this lonely and fearful place, and there is no way out for me.

I heard about a man, named Jesus, who died for me. And that the blood from his wounds, and the pain in his body, and the shame, and suffering he endured on the cross for me, was a sacrificial offering for all.

Jesus, Jesus, God, please show me your mercy Lord, show me your mercy Lord, show me your grace Lord.

Father, please let the blood that Jesus shed clean my soul, and let it free me from this prison.
Father, please remove this burden, and defend me against my enemies, that seek after my soul.
They seek to destroy me Lord. Please answer this S.O.S call.

Jesus, I thank you for the blood, that you shed for me. I can feel your love all around me.
In my heart, I know that you are here.
And I know that your angels are watching over me.

I thank you Jesus, for sacrificing your life for all.
And God, I thank you, for answering my S.O.S call.
Amen.

Heaven’s Grocery Store

Ellen J. Barrier

I was walking down life's highway a long time ago.
One day I saw a sign that read HEAVEN'S GROCERY STORE.
As I got a little closer, the door open wide, and when I came to myself, I was standing inside.
I saw a host of ANGELS; they were standing everywhere. And one ANGEL said, “MY CHILD SHOP WITH CARE.”  Everything a CHRISTIAN needed was in that grocery store.  And all you couldn’t carry, you could come back the next day for more.
First, I got some PATIENCE.  LOVE was in the same row.  Further down was UNDERSTANDING. You need that everywhere you go.
I got a box or two of WISDOM, a bag or two of FAITH. I just couldn’t miss the HOLY GHOST for it was all over the place.
I stopped to get some STRENGTH and COURAGE to help me run the race. By then, my basket was getting full, but I remembered I need some GRACE.
I didn’t forget SALVATION. For SALVATION that was free.
So, I tried to get enough of that save you and me.
Then I started to the counter to pay my grocery bill. For I thought I had everything to do MY MASTER’s WILL. As I went up the aisle, I saw PRAYER and just had to put that in.  For I knew when I stepped outside, I would run right into sin.
PEACE and JOY were PLENTIFUL.  They were on the last shelf. SONG and PRAISES were hanging near so I just helped myself.
Then, I said now how much do I owe? HE just smiled and said, JUST TAKE THEM EVERYWHERE YOU GO. How much do I really owe? HE smiled and said, MY CHILD, JESUS PAID YOUR BILL A LONG TIME AGO." TO GOD BE THE GLORY FOR EVERYTHING IN 2012. LET THERE BE LIGHT DAILY AND EMBRACE GOD'S GRACE OVER YOUR LIFE LIKE NEVER BEFORE!"

Condemned for Showing the World’s Shame

Ellen J. Barrier

“The books that the world calls immoral are the books that show the world its own shame.”

For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men.
Titus 2:11

My Thoughts:

The same people who condemn books that show the world its own shame, also, condemn lyrics, movies, music, and songs, for showing the world its own shame.

The Bible contains many books that show the world its own shame.  But when we articulate those things, and reveal them in books, lyrics, movies, music, and songs,  the Holier than Thou crowd, comes after us, condemning and  sitting in the seat of judgment, claiming their religious rights are being infringed upon.  Some individuals believe they are doing God’s work, by going after the authors, artists, and performers work,  and labeling it “immoral” trying to hinder the progress.

Showing the world its own shame through books, lyrics, movies, music, and songs are methods of teachings that can be for the good of the world. People are given the opportunity to make some changes in their lives for the good that will make the world less shameful. Through the technology of today, we are able to make biblical teachings more effective, when we view things from an educational standpoint of view, rather than viewing them by using our personal religious beliefs, that causes arguments and disagreements.

Music is the universal language of mankind.  ~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (Outre-Mer)

Books, Lyrics, Movies, Music and Songs are The Universal Language of Mankind.

The Power of Music over the Mind

Musician/Recording Artist/Songwriter

“Music is a safe kind of high.” __Jimi Hendrix

There is a power in music that can connect with the listener, in a way that no other source can. Music has power over the mind.

Artists are able to stir emotions with their music, through the state of mood feelings:  There are many genres of music to choose from. Each piece of art has its own mood.  In the quote below from the bible, this artist mood is sad. In the next quote, the effect of the artist, with this listener, is that high mood, Mr. Hendrix was referring to.  Music is like a medicine. We are addicted to music, because we need it. It can bring relief to the aches and stressful situations that life brings. We live in a world of music. There is sound and rhythm everywhere we go!

The Sad Mood:
“My harp also is turned to mourning, and my organ into the voice of them that weep.” Job 30:31

The High Mood:
“When I hear music, I fear no danger. I am invulnerable. I see no foe. I am related to the earliest times, and to the latest. __Henry David Thoreau

Poem: by William Ernest Henley

Artists and Poets, speak through their poems and songs. Their emotions can be felt in many instances.

In this poem, William Ernest Henley, had some health problems.
He was diagnosed with Tuberculosis of the bone, at the age of 12, which later spread to one of his feet. Despite his illness, he completed the Oxford local exam as a senior. And was able to live a successful life.

He had been told by physicians, he needed to have both feet amputated. He received a medical procedure that enabled him to avoid amputation of his feet. In his poem he expresses determination to face challenges unafraid.
* Invictus is Latin for unconquered

             Invictus

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever Gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of Circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of Chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find me, unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gait,
How charged with punishment the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.
